On 25th March we hosted our Annual Meeting. All the usual business took place, but like never before! Instead of meeting in our church hall venue, we took to Zoom where we’ve now been meeting virtually for a year.
We enjoyed a look back on the year with lots of photos and memories in the President’s Report, which was seen by everyone using the ‘share screen’ option. Our Secretary and Treasurer used the same format for their reports, and after those we saw a Charity Report. It was amazing to see how much we’ve achieved despite everything that’s going on, and we realised what a brilliantly resourceful bunch we are!
When it came to voting in our committee for the coming membership year, as well as all the particular roles within the committee, we opted to use the polling function that Zoom offers. It was easy to set up and actually made things a lot easier than raising our hands in the hall! We were able to see exactly how many people voted for each election, without anyone knowing how anyone voted personally as it’s all done anonymously. We found it a really efficient way of getting the business part of the meeting done and our members found it really simple to use.
We always like to finish our Annual Meeting with a fun session of some kind, so after all the business was done we welcomed percussionist Jo May who taught us to play the spoons. Jo was fantastic, and engaged us all so well, so we felt very at ease as we tried our hand! Most of us found we were surprised at how much we were able to pick up, and everyone had lots of fun!
Our Annual Meeting now falls at the end of our membership year, so it felt like a really good way to round the year off, and to get excited about the year to come! We have lots of excellent meetings planned, with contingencies in place so that we can continue to adapt to the current Government guidelines. So here’s to another fabulous year of Baildon Belles!
